I am a bit steamed that I am now writing this rather than thundering across the fields of Hyrule. According to my master plan that would have been the scenario. Right now I am up north in the town I grew up, regretably a somewhat more boring place compared to where I usually reside, and had I had my way I would have bought a Wii and brought it with me to keep me busy when other activities eluded me. What happened was this: A friend of mine told me he had gotten a preorder at a local gaming store and advised me to do the same ASAP. There's a funny story in regards to this but I'll save that for later. The advice was sound and I intended to take care of it promptly, but due to having the economy of the average village drunk it had to wait.
When I finally got around to it the surprisingly helpful clerk at the gamestore (my experience is that clerks at gamestores are retarted mothers boys who have no business talking to anything resembling a customer) who told me there were quite a few preorders in but they were expecting a healthy injection of Wii's (don't laugh!) come launch time. Worst case scenario I would have to wait a few days. This was of course not the case. For whatever reason Nintendo felt Australia was more of a priority (for once) and Europe got almost fuck-all. The store I mentioned got six units, five nunchucks and one Wii-mote, a pitiful amount by any measure. This basicly resulted in me not getting but my more timely and somewhat wiser friend landing one (as well as the only Wii-mote, a nunchuck, Zelda and Rayman).
Much as this made me a bit depressed and quite annoyed (at Nintendo, even if I love them, the store had no fault in the afair) my friend turned out to be a true samaritan. Due to the fact that he and his girlfriend were having work done in their living room they weren't able to have the Wii installed there so he let me borrow it. This meant that I could toy around with it before leaving for the freezing hell I am currently in both in solitary and in the company of others. How I felt about it after all the anticipation and waiting will be the subject of the next few posts.
